2024 Best Communities for Music Education

Lockport City School District has been named one of 738 districts across the nation as a Best Communities for Music Education recipient by the National Association of Music Merchants Foundation (NAMM). The Lockport City School District demonstrates an unwavering commitment to providing comprehensive music education for all students and is dedicated to providing learning opportunities as part of a well-rounded education. This is the seventh consecutive year the district has received the award. Congratulations!

Buffalo Philharmonic Orchestra, Niagara County Music Educators Association Honors Outstanding Lockport Music Teacher

Debbie Hutter

The Niagara County Music Educators Association (NCMEA) announced that Debbie Hutter, a distinguished music educator at Lockport Schools, is the recipient of the prestigious BPO/NCMEA Award for Excellence in Music Education. This accolade celebrates Debbie's remarkable dedication to nurturing musical talent among her students and enriching music programs across Niagara County.

Debbie's commitment to music education extends beyond the classroom. In addition to serving as the treasurer on the NCMEA Executive Board since 2001, Debbie has played an integral role in shaping the organization's initiatives and fostering collaboration among music educators. Additionally, her role as a piano accompanist for Lockport students and ensembles, director of music at her church, and accompanist for Lock City Sound exemplifies her multifaceted contributions to the local music scene.

NCMEA All-County Ensembles

All County

In total, 109 students in grades four through twelve were accepted into NCMEA All-County ensembles. Similarly, In grades 7-12, there were 40 students accepted into NYSSMA All-State ensembles.

Jazz Choir

The Lockport High School music program has achieved remarkable success this year, earning top honors and accolades. The Concert Choir and Vocal Jazz Ensemble both received “Level Six Gold with Distinction” ratings at the NYSSMA Majors. The Mixed Chorus clinched first place at the Darien Lake Music Fest, a first in the school's history. In addition, four singers, one instrumentalist, and one alternate were accepted into Conference All-State ensembles, setting a record for Lockport.
