Dear George Southard Learning Community,

I am writing to inform you of an incident that occurred earlier today involving an individual who gained temporary access to George Southard Elementary School.

A young male from the community entered the building through a door that had been briefly opened to allow students to return indoors from the playground. As soon as he entered, he was promptly stopped and questioned by a member of our staff, who then directed him to leave the premises. The individual complied immediately with this request.

Following the incident, local law enforcement was contacted and responded quickly to the school. A formal report was filed, and district administrators worked closely with the police to conduct a thorough investigation. We would like to extend our sincere thanks to the Niagara County Sheriff’s Department for their swift response and continued collaboration with the district in addressing this matter.

Please know that the safety and security of our students and staff remain our top priority. The district treats all incidents of unauthorized access with the utmost seriousness. In accordance with our District Code of Conduct, we immediately initiate an investigation and work in full cooperation with local authorities. Where appropriate, the district may take formal action, including banning individuals from all school properties and pursuing charges through law enforcement.

Our commitment is to ensure a safe and secure learning environment for all. If any of our parents and/or legal guardians have any questions or concerns regarding this matter, I encourage you to contact Principal Deanna Schmitt directly at (716) 478-4771.

Thank you for your continued support and attention to this important matter.

Yours in Education,
Mathis Calvin III, Ed.D.
Superintendent of Schools
