Dear Parents and/or Legal Guardians,

As you are aware, the Lockport City School District adopted the new English/Language Arts (Benchmark Advance) and Math (iReady) curriculum for implementation during the 2024-2025 school year.  In these first several weeks of school, an emphasis was placed on establishing foundational routines and procedures.  Core content in both programs has begun, yet we are currently in the early phases of administering assessments and solidifying the grading process. Therefore, it would not be appropriate for us to assign a grade in ELA and Mathematics at this time.

Progress Reports will be posted to the Parent Portal on October 23, 2024, and will include Social Studies, Science, and Special Area grades.

Please know our first Report Card will be published to the Parent Portal on December 10, 2024.  At that time, grades will more closely reflect an accurate measure of your child’s progress in learning the grade level standards and ultimately achieving the end-of-year outcomes.  ELA and Mathematics grades will both be included in this Report Card and in the future.  You will begin to recognize higher levels of academic expectations and the rigorous nature of these programs.

As always, you can reach out directly to your child’s teacher to discuss their progress, and/or request a parent/teacher conference. I truly appreciate your flexibility and understanding as we navigate the new curriculum.

Respectfully,
Jennifer T. Gilson
