Summer Reading

Summer Reading Challenge:

This summer students will have the opportunity to complete 4 Reading challenges to earn prizes and Roar Bucks for the upcoming school year. The challenges will be open for 2 week windows. Students will be asked to submit a signed reading log and complete a Google form summary for each challenge.

Challenge 1: 7/8/24-7/18/24
Write a summary of one of the texts you read in the Summer Reading Challenge. Make sure you include characters, the setting and important events in your summary.

Challenge 2: 7/18/24-8/1/24

Challenge 3: 8/1/24-8/15/24
Read each night for 20 minutes during the challenge #3 window and write fill out the following form when you have completed your book log sheet and had it signed by a parent.

Challenge 4: 8/15/24-8/30/24
Read each night for 20 minutes during the challenge #4 window and write fill out the following form when you have completed your book log sheet and had it signed by a parent.

Summer Math Challenge:

This summer students will have the opportunity to complete 4 math challenges to earn prizes for next school year. The challenges will be open for 2 week windows. Students will be asked to email a picture of their completed assignment to Mr. Lewis (glewis@lockportschools.net). 

Activity 1: Coordinate Planes (7/8/24-7/18/24)
Students will plot the hidden picture and send a submission to Mr. Lewis (glewis@lockportschools.net)

Activity 2: 3D Shapes (7/18/24-8/1/24)
Students will cut out 3D shape net figures from hand out, Rectangular Prism, Cube, and Triangular Prism. Students should also draw these three net shapes, with sidewalk chalk outside, or on a piece of paper, and submit them for credit. Students should submit a picture of their net figures to Mr. Lewis (glewis@lockportschools.net

Activity 3: Density STEM Activity (8/1/24-8/15/24)
Students should ask an adult to help them fill up a sink, bathtub, pitcher, or use of a pool. They then should find and list 5 items that float, and 5 items that sink, and note any items that do not sink all the way but do not float on the surface. Students should then look up what density is and create a definition in their own words. Students should submit a picture of their density worksheet to Mr. Lewis (glewis@lockportschools.net)

Activity 4: Road Trip Planner Activity (8/15/24-8/30/24)
Students should complete the pages of the road trip planner. When complete students should submit a picture of all pages to Mr. Lewis (glewis@lockportschools.net)
