Dear Anna Merritt Parents and Guardians,
Earlier today, the district received information that one of our Anna Merritt Elementary students made gestures to other students that could be perceived as a potential threat. In response, we immediately initiated an investigation in collaboration with local law enforcement.
Following a thorough review, the police determined that there is no credible threat to the school or its community.
Please be assured that the district treats all concerns of this nature with the utmost seriousness. We are committed to conducting comprehensive investigations and enforcing our code of conduct to maintain the safety and well-being of our students and staff.
We kindly ask that all parents and/or legal guardians speak with their child(ren) about the importance of avoiding statements or gestures that could be interpreted as threatening. Even casual remarks or gestures can lead to unnecessary concern and must be handled carefully.
We are grateful to the Lockport City Police Department for their swift response and continued collaboration. As a precaution, a School Safety Monitor will be present during arrival at Anna Merritt tomorrow-- which is our standard protocol when any type of threat, credible or otherwise, has been reported.
Should you have any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to contact Principal Patricia McMahon for further information at 716-478-4725.
Yours in Education,
Mathis Calvin III, Ed.D.
Superintendent of Schools
