Dear Parents and Legal Guardians of George Southard Elementary School,
I am pleased to share some exciting news with you regarding the leadership at George Southard Elementary School. At the Board of Trustees meeting last night, the Board approved the hire of Mr. Michael E. Hiller as the new Principal of George Southard Elementary School.
Mr. Hiller brings a wealth of experience and expertise to our district. He is currently serving as the Director of Special Education at the North Tonawanda City School District, a role he has held since 2019. Prior to that, he was the Principal of Ohio Elementary School in North Tonawanda for three years. In addition to his administrative experience, Mr. Hiller has also worked as a Teacher on Special Assignment, High School Assistant Principal, Literacy Coach, and English Teacher at Sweet Home School District. He began his career as an English Teacher at Dunkirk Senior High School.
A resident of Lockport, NY, Mr. Hiller is a dedicated father and husband. He is thrilled to be joining the Lockport City School District family and is looking forward to taking on the role of Principal at George Southard Elementary.
Mr. Hiller will formally join the district on July 1, 2025. However, he is eager to meet with the school community before then. On April 23rd, 2025, Mr. Hiller will visit George Southard Elementary to meet with staff, students, and parents/legal guardians. We invite you to attend a special “Meet with Sweets” event, which will be held in two sessions:
• 9:30 AM - 10:30 AM for parents and guardians in the morning (with donuts)
• 5:30 PM - 6:30 PM for parents and guardians in the evening (with cookies)
During this time, Mr. Hiller will have the opportunity to meet with families and engage with our school community. Additionally, he will be touring the school to meet staff and students.
We are excited to welcome Mr. Hiller and look forward to his leadership at George Southard Elementary School. If you have any questions or would like more information, please feel free to contact the school or reach out to my office directly.
Thank you for your continued support, and we look forward to seeing you on April 23rd!
Sincerely,
Mathis Calvin III, Ed.D.
