Dear Parents and/or Guardians,

I am writing to inform you of a situation that took place late this afternoon near Aaron Mossell Junior High School and Anna Merritt Elementary School. The district was notified that local police were handling a domestic concern in the vicinity of both schools. Out of an abundance of caution and in an effort to ensure the safety of our students and staff, we initiated our lockout procedures at both schools.

A lockout is a safety protocol in which all exterior doors are secured, and no one is allowed to enter or exit the building. During a lockout, classes continue as normal, and there is no disruption to instruction. We want to reassure you that at all times, our students were safe, and instruction proceeded without interruption. The issue is now resolved and the area has been deemed safe by local law enforcement. Today's dismissals will take place according to the standard schedule.

We are grateful to the Lockport Police Department for their swift response and continued partnership in keeping our schools safe. Their assistance was invaluable in addressing the situation.

The safety and well-being of our students and staff is always our top priority. We remain committed to providing a secure and supportive environment for everyone in our school community.

Thank you for your understanding and support.

Yours in Education,
Dr. Mathis Calvin
Superintendent of Schools
