Kindergarten Registration

The Lockport City School District is now enrolling new students for Universal Pre-School (UPK) and Kindergarten for the 2024-2025 school year.

All children who will be four-years-old by December 1 and reside within the Lockport City School District are eligible to enroll in preschool. This free, early childhood education program is run by the YWCA and is housed at John Pound Elementary School, 51 High Street.

UPK at John Pound cultivates academic, social, emotional, and physical success for each child. Half and full day programs are available. Applications for the program are available through the YWCA of the Niagara Frontier, the John Pound Early Childhood Center, all Lockport elementary schools, LCSD’s Family Empowerment Center, and the Lockport Board of Education.

Children who will be five-years-old by December 1 and reside in the Lockport City School District can enroll for kindergarten at Lockport Schools. Students who previously registered with Lockport’s UPK program do not have to register again. Only document updates are required.

To enroll a child for either program, parents or guardians must follow a three-step process. First, visit lockportschools.org/register and complete the student registration packet. Second, gather the necessary documentation listed on the website. Lastly, schedule an appointment at either the Board of Education Office, 130 Beattie Avenue or the Family Empowerment Center in Cornerstone Arena. Bring your documentation and registration packet to your appointment.

For more information, to request a hard copy of the registration packet, or to schedule an appointment, please the Board of Education at (716) 478-4811.
