Lockport High School’s vocal jazz ensemble and concert choir achieved remarkable success at the New York State School Music Association (NYSSMA) Majors Festival, held on May 16 at Lockport High School (LHS). Competing at Level VI, the most challenging tier, both ensembles demonstrated exceptional talent and dedication, earning them prestigious accolades.
Under the direction of Mr. Robert Pacillo, Lockport High School Choral Director, the vocal jazz ensemble and concert choir spent months preparing for the festival. He noted, “The students’ commitment to excellence and passion was apparent in every rehearsal and I am so proud their performances left a lasting impression on the judges.”
Both the vocal jazz ensemble and concert choir performed at Level VI for a panel of two judges and received the highest possible rating, “Gold with Distinction.” These were the only two Gold with Distinction ratings given at the festival, which included eight choruses from around Western New York.
