Lockport High School (LHS) announced the selection of four students who will travel to Anaheim, California next week to participate in the Distributive Education Clubs of America (DECA) International Career and Development Conference.
The students have demonstrated outstanding talent and dedication within DECA, a club which prepares emerging leaders and entrepreneurs for careers in marketing, finance, hospitality, and management. The club at LHS is currently in its 16 th year of operation and is 69 members strong.
The four LHS students selected for the competition exemplify the spirit of leadership that DECA fosters. They are: Alexia Kilroy, Griffin Adams, Jadyn Beshaw, and Jocelyn Velazquez.
Alexia Kilroy, a senior at LHS, will pursue international honors in the Principles of Business Management (PBM) competition in Anaheim. She will join more than 10,000 students from across the world in this competitive events program. Alexia will compete in both a 100-question exam and a role-play interview during the conference. She secured her spot by placing 6th in PBM and earning an overall top 10 spot at the DECA State-level competition in Rochester last month.
Griffin Adams, a senior, was chosen to serve as a delegate in the Aspire Emerging Leader Series at the conference. His selection was based on his active involvement in DECA and top 10 placement at the State Conference. Griffin will represent LHS at this leadership academy where he will learn about fast tracking college and career success.
Juniors Jocelyn Velazquez and Jadyn Beshaw were both selected as delegates for the Ignite Emerging Leader Series. Their selection was based on their strong participation in DECA and placing in the top 10 at the State Conference.
Lockport High School Business teacher and DECA advisor, Jill DiTullio shared, “All four of these individuals are exceptional - they all possess true leadership qualities and they want to strive for that next level. Their journey to Anaheim showcases their personal accomplishments and reflects the collective achievements of DECA at LHS.”
