Music teacher recognized

The Niagara County Music Educators Association (NCMEA) announced today that Debbie Hutter, a distinguished music educator at Lockport Schools, is the recipient of the prestigious BPO/NCMEA Award for Excellence in Music Education. This accolade celebrates Debbie's remarkable dedication to nurturing musical talent among her students and enriching music programs across Niagara County.

Debbie's commitment to music education extends beyond the classroom. In addition to serving as the treasurer on the NCMEA Executive Board since 2001, Debbie has played an integral role in shaping the organization's initiatives and fostering collaboration among music educators. Additionally, her role as a piano accompanist for Lockport students and ensembles, director of music at her church, and accompanist for Lock City Sound exemplifies her multifaceted contributions to the local music scene.

"We are thrilled to recognize Debbie for her outstanding contributions to music education throughout our schools and Niagara County," said Dr. Mathis Calvin, III, Superintendent of the Lockport City School District. "Her passion, expertise, and leadership have enriched the lives of countless students, many of whom have gone on to pursue their own pathway as musicians.”

To honor the exceptional achievements of local music educators and students, including Debbie, the BPO will host an awards reception and concert at Kleinhans Music Hall on May 4. This event will provide an opportunity for educators, administrators, and community members to express their gratitude and admiration for local music educators.
