Advanced Placement (AP) Courses
Advanced Placement (AP) courses have very strict and specific requirements, deadlines, and potential financial implications. You will be required to enter a valid email address and you will receive a copy of your responses for your records.
AP courses are considered to be college level courses, in which students can possibly earn a higher multiplier used for determining overall GPA. Students should expect 1 to 2 hours of homestudy for every hour spent in class. Students will be expected to learn material outside of class as well as in class.
Advanced Placement Exam (AP Exam)
Students enrolled in AP classes have the opportunity to take the AP Exam. Taking the AP Exam is what earns you potential college credit (not just the class itself). Each college or university individually determines what score is necessary (one college may accept a score of 3 (out of 5), while another might require a 4). This year the cost of the exam is $110 and is paid online through a third party website called Total Registration.
A reduced exam fee is offered for students/families that qualify for free/reduced lunch. Students will note this in their Total Registration enrollment.
Students will also be required to enroll with the College Board to access course material (regardless if they will take the AP exam or not).
Finally, please be aware of the following VERY IMPORTANT deadlines that will be coming in the following weeks.
1) September 6- Complete this Student/Parent Contract
2) September 13- Sign up for your class in College Board using the join code provided in class
3) September 13- Sign up in Total Registration www.TotalRegistration.net/AP/332870 (if you are not taking the exam or you are unsure you do not need to submit payment at this time). Total Registration Enrollment Instructions
4) September 27- DECISION DEADLINE- If your student is NOT going to take the AP Exam associated with one or more of their enrolled AP courses. This Google Form must be filled out by your student (they need to log in with their student google account).
PLEASE NOTE: By default, the College Board automatically enrolls you for the AP exam when you join a course. I must manually go in and change your exam setting. This google form will prompt me to make the change before the College Board ordering deadline so that you/your student will not be charged the exam fee.
5) October 20- PAYMENT DEADLINE- Payment must be entered and received through Total Registration. Payments after this date will incur a Late Payment Fee.
6) October 31- LATE PAYMENT DEADLINE- Orders are due to the College Board and changes CANNOT be made after this date.
